This is May in Orléans!

8/5/2013

Bonjour mes amis!

It's May in Orléans,
and do you know what that means?

It means lots of Holidays!  Last Wednesday, we had the French Labor Day, and starting today, there's three more days of Holiday this week.

But, in Orléans, it's been a really special week.  I've told you before how important Joan of Arc was to the city of Orléans.  Each year, there's a huge Festival to still honor her, and it's going on right now.  Each day, April 29 through May 9, there's Special Events, Medieval Stagings, Parades, etc.

Last night, however, was one of the most exciting nights of the Festival, and we were able to attend and enjoy, and I'm so pleased to share this with you today!

We made our way to The Cathedral around 9:00 PM...

There was quite a good crowd...

As darkness came, we were ready to enjoy...

For weeks, the Flags have been waving around the City...

Me and Jewelius in the Crowd...

First, the Mayor of Orléans, and then, the Bishop of Orléans gave short Speeches...

And these were followed by a Sound and Light Show...the story of Joan of Arc in lights and music...all projected onto the Cathedral...

Dr. J took some amazing pictures of what we saw.  The whole program was really spectacular!  Dr. J even got some Movie footage, so I will share a short portion now...Enjoy!

***UPDATE:  Sorry, for some reason, I've had technical difficulties with this.  Trust me, the Show was really great.  If you know me personally, I'd be happy to show it to you sometime!

Joan of Arc was burned at the stake, but later was named a Saint by the Church...

After the "Son et Lumière", we wandered down to the Loire River, where a live Concert was to take place.  We did NOT stay until 2:30 in the morning, when it ended!

I love this shot of the crowds after the Sound and Light Show!  This is May in Orléans!!!

Have a "Jewel" of a day!
We will...we're on Holiday!!!
Jan
