Top Ten French Words!

16/10/2012

Bonjour mes amis!

It's Top Ten Tuesday again...yeah!

Today, I'd like to share with you my Top Ten French Words...

But before we get to that, let me just share a picture with you.  This is one of my favorite breakfasts to have here!  Simple and tasty!  These are Madeleines, a tasty little cake that's wonderful for a coffee break!

Now...on to our Top Ten Countdown!!!

This might be a hard post for Americans to appreciate (..unless of course, you've studied the French Language...), because much of the reason I've chosen these words is because of how they sound in French, and you can't hear them on my blog... but just trust me, all of these are fun to say in French, and are so different than English, that I've decided they are my TOP TEN!  (Who knows...by the time I've spent a year here, perhaps there will be some changes as I learn new words!!!)

Top Ten French Words to say!
(from my perspective...)

#10 = Vêtements (Clothing)

#9 = Genoux (Knees)

#8 = Parfois (Sometimes)

#7 = Toujours (Always)

#6 = Quatre-vingts (Eighty)
(Isn't this funny?  To get 80 in French, it's literally translated four-twenties!!!)

#5 = Poubelle (Trash Can)
(This word just sounds funny to say!)

#4 =Lave-Vaisselle (Dishwasher)
(I know, such a common word, but it is fun to say...
and we do have to replace ours in our Texas home so it's fresh on my mind!)

#3 = Maintenant! (Now!)
(Jewel Jr. will think this is my number one...pronounced, it sounds more like mant-no!)

#2 = Quancaillerie (Hardware or hardware store)
(For so long, this has been my fave, but...oh well, there can only be one winner!)

and...

#1 = Aujourd'hui (Today)

Some of these words just roll off your tongue!  Some other week, I think I'll be sharing my Top Ten Phrases...now that would be fun...kind of like a French Lesson from me to you!

Do you mind if I stop and have a little lunch?  When I'm hanging out at home, this is typically what I might eat...the little sandwich there has a slice of ham and gouda cheese (with cumin) on it, and it's on the most delicious bread.  FYI...another word I like is FROMAGE...that's cheese, and there's plenty of it here...and we enjoy it all!

***In case you see the little treat propped up against the flower pot, I've only tried the Bueno chocolate/hazelnut bar once, and it's pretty sweet...another great coffee time treat!  (Many treats here, especially with chocolate, also have hazelnuts.  Don't know why...I never asked anyone!)***

Thank you for stopping by today aujourd'hui!  It was fun to share this with you...

Have a "Jewel" of a day!
Jan
