It's for the Birds...

13/03/2013

Bonjour mes amis!

Yesterday, I took you "Shelling" at the Beach in Saintes Maries-de-la-Mer, a part of La Camargue region in Southern France.  Today, we're going to stop at another place nearby...

Basically, it's a Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary...and what a nice afternoon it was...

The Flamingos basically rule the place...

They were so fun and fascinating to watch...and there were so many of them...

They were fighting one minute, and then performing syncopated antics the next...

And when they made noise...oh my...

It was really fascinating to see these birds fly, too...

Of course, there were other birds...

And Beaver-like looking animals, called Ragondin, that were basically, River Rats...

La Camargue is loaded with Marshland...

The Marshes were covered in La Roselière, flowing grasses with plumes on top.  I loved to take pictures of them...until Dr. J said it was enough!

We watched this Baby Ragondin, just a few feet away, munch away on vegetation.  He didn't even care that we were there, and the Mother didn't seem to be anywhere nearby...

We saw many Swans...

And other birds, that made us laugh when they dove under the water (tails in the air) for something to eat...

As I said, those Flamingoes ruled the day!

Who knew that bird watching could be so much fun?

Have a "Jewel" of a Day!
Jan
