Bonjour mes amis!
I hardly dare say this aloud...we have another Sunny Day today! Yesterday was just gorgeous. I even got to sit outside, having a nice cup of French Coffee with a friend! So enjoyable...
It's just amazing how much there is to see here in France. Everything is new to us, so we want to see it all! Last Saturday, we had a free day available, so we decided to take a little Road Trip to Bourges, about 1 1/2 hours away...
As soon as we arrived, we went to the Office of Tourism to decide what we wanted to do during our visit. The Lady we spoke with in the Tourism Office spoke slowly and very clearly to us in French, and we all understood her. Yeah! This made us all feel so good!
First stop, I'll tell you about today, was the Cathedral...
Saint-Étienne de Bourges!
You can barely ever get a shot of a Cathedral in France without scaffolding...these old Cathedrals are always being repaired, or cleaned. This was a very large Cathedral, as you can see...patterned after Notre Dame!
Amazing Detail!
Astronomical Clock in the Nave...
I thought it was really cool that they had a beautiful Stained Glass Window above the Organ pipes...and of course, there were many huge Chandeliers!
Check out the closeup of this window...Dr. J always finds the scenes where there's been a beheading...His new camera is amazing to zoom in so close on the details of these amazing windows...
Can you tell why I liked this window?
The Fleur-de-Lis, of course!
Can you believe all the color in these windows? You could seriously spend all day just looking at the detailed stories in each of these windows...
Another close-up...
Outside, the gargoyles made me smile...so many of them!
More amazing detail!
These guys lost their heads, too...but not because of beheadings!
I'm so astounded by the Detail!
A View from down the street, in the neighborhood!
Nightime shots, before we left Bourges!
Though I am astounded by all the detail of all the Cathedrals we have visited, I am reminded by a Sermon I listened to last night (from one of my former Pastors) that,
"The Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands..." from Acts 7:48.
As humans, we love pretty Churches, and we love to admire them, but
God lives in our hearts when we truly know Him...
and this is where He desires to dwell.
Tomorrow, I'll be back to show you more of Bourges...think Decorative Arts, Quaint Architecture and Marshland...
Have a "Jewel" of a Day!
Jan
