O'er the Ramparts we watched...

19/11/2012

Bonjour mes amis!

My parents two week visit allowed for lots of time site-seeing, so we decided on two weekend getaways.  In 2004, our family had a wonderful vacation to many places in France, and from a postcard I sent to my parents at that time, we decided our first getaway...St. Malo, France, and Le Mont St. Michel, nearby.  (I'll be showing you Le Mont St. Michel later this week).  St Malo is in the northwest of France, the Brittany region, by the Atlantic Ocean.  It was a five hour drive away from our home here.

After arriving in St. Malo, we headed to see the Ramparts of this fortified City...

...and some views out to sea...

The tide was out, so the following view made us chuckle...

It was a cold day, so we bundled up as best we could...

Isn't this an impressive city?

Of course, I have to throw a fleur-de-lis shot in here...

This storm headed toward us, but thankfully, it was brief...

This is Jacques Cartier, famous explorer from St. Malo, who sailed from St. Malo to explore and colonize Canada...

Even Jewelius was cold...

Dr. J caught this amazing shot...

As you can see, the day improved, and the sun came out, but it was still quite cool...

Though most of St. Malo had to be reconstructed after heavy bombing in World War II, the Ramparts are, for the most part, original!

Sorry for such a picture heavy post today, but I wanted you to see these amazing walls, and all the beauty around...

I have lots more to share, so come on back tomorrow!

As always, have a "Jewel" of a day!
Jan
