Whimsey in Aix-en-Provence!

16/03/2013

Bonjour mes amis!

Yes, we will spend a few more posts in Provence...unless I throw something else in there for fun...

Next stop, the city of Aix-en-Provence!  This was a large city, crowded with many people.  We got there at just the right time, as some Markets were going on right in the center of town.

This Fountain welcomed us...
(After we stopped at the Office of Tourism, that is!)

We browsed a couple of Markets, and ended up buying some Bread, Cheese, Sausage, and Olives...for Lunch, of course!

Love this Door!

Interesting corner pieces on some of the buildings!

Then, we sat on these concrete stumps in the sun to eat our lunch, while Dr. J cut off chunks of cheese and sausage with his pocket knife.  Whimsical, huh?  The operative word here is "SUN" really.  It was a chilly day...the Mistral (North Wind) was keeping it rather cold in Provence during our stay!

We intended to go into this Cathedral, Saint-Sauveur, but it was closed until 2:00 PM.  (I've probably told you this before, but in France, many things are closed between 12:00 and 2:00 PM for the lunch hour(s)!)

Once we entered the Cathedral, there was some special Art, and a very nice French Lady who told us about the Painting below...very interesting story in this painting, if you really study it...

Interesting Colors for the Organ!

From there, we just wandered around the city, soaking it all in...

The "Cours Mirabeau" is a famous Street.  The Architecture on the two sides of the street were somewhat different, melding the old city with the new.  We walked along and enjoyed before we headed to the car...

As we were leaving Aix-en-Provence, we noticed two Whimsical Things that made us Smile...

Older people playing Petanque (similar to Bocce Ball in Italian)!

And, an Electric Car charging in the Parking Garage!

How fun!  We had a great little visit in Aix-en-Provence.  It was a lively, yet clean city!  I'd go back!  Of course, who wouldn't?  After all, it is Provence!

I hope you're getting a little Whimsey in your weekend!
Have a "Jewel" of a weekend, too!
Jan
